Worship: A Thankfulness Toward God  - by Stephen Schunk

Worship: a thankfulness toward God

Psalm 100:4  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him and bless his name.

Worship is a part of almost every church service in the country. It is also, for many people, a deciding factor in what church they are going to attend. So what is worship and does it play a major role in the church?

Well Col. 3:16 says " Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." So worship is used to teach and admonish, but it is also for being thankful toward God for everything he has done for us . ( Ps. 98:1, 95:1-3 ....) There are many passages in the psalms about being thankful to the Lord. not only for salvation, but also for him being a just God, a Rock of salvation, the protector of his people, and there are many other reasons also.

Even though there are other reasons to worship one of the most important is to give thanks unto the Lord for all the tings he has given and done for us. So this Christmas season remember to worship God for the gift of his son to us.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. Psalms 95:2

Deciding which church to attend is very important and at times difficult. Worship should be the main reason to attend church, but sadly many churches have put man in center and not the WORD... John 4:23-24.

I agree with the comment regarding the focal point of worship. Worship is well stated by Stephen. It IS to be GOD CENTERED. Church worship is to glorify the Lord not entertain people.

Great job Stephen, I agree that worship should be God centered and not me centered.

Enjoyed you blog Stephen! Far too often these days the style and not the content of worship during a Church service is what determines whether or not a person will or will not attend there. If our worship is not steeped in the truth of God's Word, and with the proper heart attitude it is all in vain. John 4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

Great post! That words have meaning is self-evident to all but to often in the church today we act as if when put to a tune words have no good or bad meaning behind them. Spot on.
