The True Meaning of Thanksgiving - by Noah Monacelli

The Bible talks a lot about the importance of being thankful however, most of that meaning is lost today. We say thanks and thank you a lot and sometimes don’t even mean it. So, what does it mean to give thanks? It’s an expression of gratitude or to show appreciation. We need to give thanks to God. The bible is filled with commands to thank God, 1 Chronicles 16:34, “Give thanks to the Lord for he is good; His love endures forever”.
The opposite meaning of thankful is ungrateful. Look at the ways the Jews behaved. They had everything they needed, and they were still ungrateful. Exodus 16:2 “And the whole congregation of the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.” God provided them with everything they needed but they were still upset and complained all the time.
Thanksgiving is a time about giving thanks to the Lord for all He has provided you. Thank him for everything you have like your water, house, food, and your Bible. Psalm 107:8-9, “Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind, for He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things”.
The world has turned Thanksgiving into something else. Some people think Thanksgiving is about eating turkey and having the family over. Those are great things, but the true meaning of Thanksgiving is about thanking the Lord for all that you have. Don’t be ungrateful like the Jews, but be thankful for all the Lord has done for you.

Enjoyed your blog son! Couldn't agree more. It's our natural disposition (sin nature) to be discontented, or ungrateful at times, not recognizing all that the Lord does for us every moment of our lives. It also doesn't help that we live in a culture that tell us we deserve more, and is constantly pushing the newest, and latest fads in our faces. We have so much as Americans, and should be so grateful for the blessings we have.
The Lord promises to provide all we need, and even promises to bless us with more.
(2 Cor 9:11) "while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God."
But please remember, blessings are not intended to be only TO YOU, but THROUGH YOU, so that you may be a blessing to others.
The most blessed thing you can do is to show the love of Christ to others, and share the life saving Gospel them. Because, by far the best blessing we can have is to have our sins forgiven, through the life saving Gospel of Jesus Christ's death, burial, and resurrection, and by believing in this we can have the assurance of everlasting life and be with Him for eternity!
This is the greatest gift we can possess, and share (2 Cor 9) continues in (VS15) to describes this gift (salvation) as "indescribable" or "unspeakable" this is in reference to a gift so great, so gracious, and give beyond what is expected or deserved that a deep sense of thanksgiving, or gratitude ought to be the mark of our Christian lives.

You did an excellent job putting these thoughts together, Noah. I couldn't agree more. Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful to the Lord for always providing for our needs. At times, we can get caught up in the materialism of it all. We need to take a step back, and realize that all of this would not be possible without the Lord, and his provision.
I'm proud of you, bro bro.

Good points! The loci of thanksgiving is not even so much for the Christian about thanking god for all the wonderful physical things he has given us, even the world can do that, but about giving thanks that we no longer have to look to ourselves for our salvation; always a failure, but now can look outside of ourselves and see no sin and damnation.

You are right Noah and a nation needs to be thankful for it's blessings.
