Recently, we pulled out of our drive way with our truck, a UHaul trailer and our car. I was driving our car, and we were headed to West Virginia to assist another church in finding a full time Pastor. As I got to the end of the driveway I looked in the rear view mirror just to check that things were closed up. Then I began to think about my "Spiritual rear view mirror". I know that we are taught and encouraged to not look back at our life, but keep our eyes on the future and what we can do. However, I think there are times that we should take a look in that rear view mirror to see where God has brought us from and what He has removed from our life.
Some people may see the struggle of drugs or alcohol left far behind. Then there may be those who see physical abuse of loved ones or heart break from relationships or from the death of a loved one. This is just a few things that can be seen when we look in the rear view mirror of our life. We each have our own rear view mirror and can see our personal things. The positive and wonderful thing about looking in that mirror is that God does and will forgive.
There is a song with the words, Roll back the curtain of memory now and then, Show me where you brought me from And where I could have been
Yes, we can benefit from a look in the "Rear View Mirror" but we should not linger, longing to return to what we see in the mirror.
May God encourage us to remember what we would be without Him.
