Dads, grandfathers, sons ….most men have, at one time or another, tried their hand at building something. Those who have built on a large scale usually understand blueprints; if you can’t read them in detail, you can at least in general, visualize what they say. Whether you can read blueprints or not, we all understand the importance of starting any construction project with an accurate architectural design.
When we think about building our lives, we would be foolish to entrust so important a project to anyone but an expert. Robert Griswold wrote, “There is a debate in society today over father’s roles. Fatherhood has lost it cultural coherence. It’s no longer clear what we want, what we expect from fathers.”
The expert in architectural design for your life is Jesus Christ! 1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Acts 4:11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
The Architect, Builder, and lifelong Maintainer are Jesus Christ! However, you may choose the wrong architects and rely on a faulty set of plans. Attempting, to build a house without Jesus as the chief designer and counselor, will only end with ultimate eternal collapse.
Choices are made prior to the actual structure being built. Those choices determine whether or not the blueprints will be followed or will be altered along the way. There is wisdom in following God’s instruction for our lives, and it is foolish to alter any of His counsel revealed through the Scripture. Remember, that the structure is still being built, however in the end one will stand and the other will fall under the torrent storms of life.
Wise and foolish builder’s alike demonstrate commitment during the building process. The desire to accomplish the task does not fade, moved along by an excellent work ethic. There is a distinct end in view – completion! However, One life is solid, stable and unmovable – the other life has no moral substance, stability!
One life empties itself of self-righteousness and pride – the other life is one of opinions, self-will, self-fulfillment, self-purpose, self-sufficiency, self-satisfaction, and self-righteousness!
One accepts the hard work of getting down to the bedrock – the other life takes the easy way because he is looking for shortcuts. The foolish one is careless about detail, with lack of concern for quality or standards. The ultimate test that determines a wise builder and a foolish one is the way the storms of life affects their houses. (thoughts taken from Matthew 7: 24-27).
