The Aroma of a Christian

The Aroma of a Christian

“Awake to soberness righteously, and sin not; for some have no knowledge of God: I speak this to move you to shame.”
1 Corinthians 15:34 ASV

We as believers must be cognitive of how we walk daily. The time to reach unsaved sinners is today. At the end of the day, can we look back and truly say, "today those around me saw a difference in my life than they saw in others"? It's not always easy to walk in the Spirit as Paul urges the believers in Galatians. But if we are saved, we have the power to do so.

Earlier in in the passage we see Paul talking to the Corinthians and discussing the fact that there was a resurrection and that if there were not, then their belief was in vain.

1 Corinthians 15: 13:-14
13But if there is no resurrection of the dead,  then not even Christ has been raised. 14And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.

I think back on times when I would discover a friend or colleague was a believer. When the discovery happened the conversation was, " I thought so" and other times it was "wow, I never knew that!" This is what Paul is talking about here.  What are our actions telling the world about us? Are we living as to what we were called?

2 Corinthians 2:15-17
15 for we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, 16 to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God's word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

What kind of aroma do we give to the world?

Love in Christ, Interim Pastor Joe Froehlingsdorf

Choices
“One's philosophy is not best expressed in words. It is expressed in the choices one makes. In the long run, we shape our lives and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility”.

We live in an era of what may be called “Post Modernism”.  ….

“Confidence”                                                                   Blog #7
The American painter, John Sargent, once painted a panel of roses that was highly praised by critics. It was a small picture, but it approached perfection. Although offered a high price for it on many occasions, Sargent refused to sell it. He considered it his best work and was very proud of it. Whenever he was deeply discouraged and doubtful of his abilities as an artist, he would look at it and remind himself, "I painted that." Then his confidence and ability would come back to him.

Dads, grandfathers, sons ….most men have, at one time or another, tried their hand at building something.  Those who have built on a large scale usually understand blueprints; if you can’t read them in detail, you can at least in general, visualize what they say.   Whether you can read blueprints or not, we all understand the importance of starting any construction project with an accurate architectural design.

Veterans and elected officials all have one thing in common:  Upon entering service, both took an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” and to “bear true faith and allegiance to the same.”

Mothers and Mercy

There is a natural connection when you speak the words Mother and Mercy.  These beautiful words may not always be spoken in the same sentence, nevertheless they are natural together.  Like knowing that, mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.  [Psalm 85:10]

It has been recorded that in a cemetery in Hanover, Germany is a grave on which were placed huge slabs of granite and marble cemented together and fastened with heavy steel clasps.  It belongs to a woman who did not believe in the resurrection of the dead.  Yet strangely, she directed in her will

Experience God’s Richest Blessing – “Personal Conviction”

“The only faith that wears well and holds its color in all weathers is that which is woven of conviction and set with the sharp mordant of experience” [Lawell].  Ezra stood before his King and Said, “I believe in God”!  Now in the face of difficult conditions,  he finds, along with others, an opportunity of acting out what he believed.

#1.3.14

The Christian with a desire to serve God never wants to see the work of God hindered in anyway.  It has been suggested that opposition to the work of God is an opportunity for the work of God.  That is true considering, “…His thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith the LORD.”  [Isaiah 55:8]
