It has been recorded that in a cemetery in Hanover, Germany is a grave on which were placed huge slabs of granite and marble cemented together and fastened with heavy steel clasps. It belongs to a woman who did not believe in the resurrection of the dead. Yet strangely, she directed in her will
that her grave be made so secure that if there were a resurrection, it could not reach her. On the marker were inscribed these words: “This burial place must never be opened.” In time, a seed covered by the stones, began to grow. Slowly it pushed its way through the soil and out from beneath them. As the roots continued to grow, the great slabs were gradually shifted so that the steel clasps were wrenched from their sockets. A tiny seed had become a tree that had pushed aside the stones.
The dynamic life force contained in that little seed is a faint reflection of the tremendous power of God’s creative word that someday will call to life the bodies of all who are in their graves. Regardless of the location or state of the body it will by the Divine power of God come forth! The resurrection of Jesus provides proof of His power to save and give life to anyone who believes on Him.
The sorrow of the disciples at the thought of loosing the Son of God caused fear to grip their hearts. Their question was simple and spoke of a lack of understanding of the power of the resurrection; why will you leave us?
Preoccupation with our own struggles in this life draws our attention away from the knowledge that the Savior, will never leave you nor forsake you." [Hebrews 13:5].
The Christian differs from the world in that he has someone to whom he may go to find help when difficulties of life confront him. Jesus tells us, It is to your advantage that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. [John 16:7].
The daily life of a true follower of Christ must not be confined to a thought process of what he might lose or does not have, but attention must be on what is best for his spiritual growth and maturity. There need to be no requirement placed on God, for you to understand what is best for you! “We should never doubt that if we come to Him, and spread out our sorrows before Him he will give us comfort.” [Albert Barnes]. No adversity will stop the Lord from giving the best to you. Jesus said to His disciples, if I depart from you, I will send Him (Holy Spirit) to you. “God often takes away from us one blessing that he may bestow a greater.” [Albert Barnes].
The life of a Christian depends on that of Christ. Because I live ye shall live also! [John 14:19].
“Men and women today testify that the power of the risen Christ has transformed their lives. We know that Jesus is alive not only because of the historical and biblical evidence but also because He has miraculously touched our lives.” [Kurt E. DeHaan]. (Thoughts taken from John 16: 4-15).
